News: A German Bargain – The Nomos Club Automatic Limited Editions

If I asked you to guess how much a 40mm German watch, with an in-house movement decorated with perlage, striping, and thermally blued screws cost, what would you guess? £5-10,000? If you guessed something like that—while I completely understand—I’m glad to tell you that in this case. Introducing the Nomos Club Automatic Limited Edition—a watch that has all that, and more, for just £1,960.

Now available in three new dial variants—black onyx, navy blue and olive green—the newest addition to the Club range is also one of the most versatile in Nomos’s back catalogue. Not only is the Club sporty—with its 40mm stainless case, screw-down crown and 200m water-resistance—but thanks to its 9.7mm thickness and small seconds dial, it could also be considered somewhat of a dress watch too.

The dial is minimal in classic Nomos style. No matter the variation you choose, the dial will be matte in colour with a subtle grained texture—made more prominent in direct sunlight. The dial features a mixture of Arabic numerals and markers—which like the hands are coated in Super-LumiNova—along with a small second counter seen close to six.

Powering the Club Automatic is the in-house calibre DUW 5001 which features Nomos’s patented “Swing System” escapement, 26 jewels and a 43-hour power reserve. Beating away at 21,600 vph, the calibre DUW 5001 is beautifully decorated with Glashütte ribbing, Nomos perlage and thermally blued screws—not bad for a watch that costs just shy of £2,000, huh?

It’s hard to find a great first watch, but if you have the budget and can afford one, the Nomos Club isn’t a bad shout. But if it’s any of the limited edition variations you are after, well, you better act quick as Nomos is only selling 175 pieces per colour—a number chosen to celebrate the 175 years of watchmaking in Glashütte.
