Feature: Baume and Mercier Introduces New Classima Colours At W&W

Baume and Mercier’s Classima line has been a mainstay of the brand for a while now, bringing a casual air to a classic but contemporary dress watch that’s pleasingly versatile.

With this update, released at Watches and Wonders, they’ve given it a youthful new palette, swapped the standard black leather strap for natural colourways in fabric and given it a two-tone dial thanks to a contrasting flange with 60-minute track.

There’s the burgundy and blue version (10694) which comes on a blue fabric strap, a silver and green version with green strap (10696) and a slightly military-looking khaki version with a grey dial (10695).

The three rhodium-plated leaf hands are well matched to the slender Roman numerals and indexes, while a discreet date aperture overlaps the 3 o’clock numeral. The polished steel case is 42mm and is thin enough to fit under any shirt cuff.

Inside is a Sellita SW200 self-winding movement, which offers an adequate 38-hour power reserve. Not only does it freshen up this collection, it’s likely it will appeal to a whole new audience who might have previously overlooked the Classima range, preferring to opt for the slightly cooler Clifton.

Baume and Mercier are among the more affordable brands making great-looking luxury watches and this will only add to their appeal among those looking for a quality entry-level mechanical Swiss watch.
