Description
As well as being a rare and highly collectable watch in its own right, the ref.168000 Submariner marks a transitional moment in Rolex history. The 168000 was sold for approximately nine months in the late 80s at the end of the production run for the 16800, itself an iconic reference. The extra zero was added to indicate that the watch was now being made with enhanced steel in the case. This marks the first occasion that Rolex used grade 904L steel over the inferior grade 316. Containing expensive alloys, this kind of steel is tough, non-magnetic, highly resistant to corrosion and comparatively easy to shape and weld. The short production run of the 168000 makes it one of the rarest Submariner references in history.
This Rolex Submariner 168000 has a black dial and a bracelet strap. This Rolex has undergone a thorough inspection of water resistance, accuracy, functionality and condition to determine the level of reconditioning required to meet our strict standards. It has also been referenced against technical documents and manufacturer records where available to ensure authenticity and a clean history. All our watches have a 24-month warranty for your peace of mind. One of our skilled polishing technicians has removed marks on the case and bracelet of this watch, brought about by daily wear and tear, which is why this watch does not come with the remaining manufacturer’s warranty.
