Feature: IWC Adds A New Ceratanium Chronograph To Its Top Gun Collection

IWC stated that 2022 is “the year of the IWC Top Gun”, but why would the watchmaker make such a claim? Perhaps it’s because it has introduced the new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Top Gun in Ceratanium, making it the first 41mm chronograph in the collection with a case, crown and pushers all made of the material.

What’s so special about Ceratanium, then? Well, it possesses the scratch-proof qualities of ceramic, as well as the hardy and lightweight assets of titanium. What’s more, this special material looks great too, boasting a unique shade of matte black which IWC and Pantone have named “IWC Ceratanium”. This dark and slightly metallic tone is created via the manufacturing process in which the case components are put in a kiln at a high temperature.

Look at the dial on this new Pilot’s Watch, and you’ll find a minimalist design of black and luminescent white easy-to-read numerals—crucial for any pilot mid-flight. As well as three sub dials and a day-date window at 3 o’clock.

The in-house calibre 69385 chronograph movement powers this IWC and boasts a 46-hour power reserve. Want to take a glimpse of the movement? Go ahead and take a peek through the open caseback.

If you’re into all-black watches then this IWC is a tempting new addition to its already popular Pilot’s Top Gun line, plus with a minimalist design, you can’t really go wrong.
