News: A Watch For Life - The New MB&F Legacy Machine Perpetual EVO

It has been 15 years since MB&F was founded by Maximilian Busser. To mark the occasion, the team has produced and thoroughly tested a new version of its already bonkers Legacy Machine Perpetual: the MB&F Legacy Machine Perpetual EVO.

MB&F is the sort of company to look at traditional watchmaking and go: “Yeah, it’s nice, but I can do better”, and that’s exactly what they did with the original Legacy Machine Perpetual. Working with watchmaker Stephen McDonnell, MB&F produced a revolutionary new take on the high complication.

Where a traditional perpetual calendar has a 31-day month, the MB&F perpetual calendar has a default of 28. This means that rather than skipping the days you don’t need; the MB&F simply adds them in. This creates a fool-proof system that makes the complication more accurate and reliable.

Other sports watches have featured perpetual calendars before—like the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar for example—but they aren’t exactly the type of watch that will accompany you on your next dive. MB&F thought about this while developing the Legacy Machine Perpetual EVO. So, while the EVO does look very sporty—especially with it’s size and accompanying rubber strap—MB&F says the EVO is not a watch for sports, it’s a watch for life.

Take it for a swim, it’s got 80m water resistance with a screw-down crown. Take it running, it’s got a rubber band you can wash when you get back. Take it cycling, on a motorcycle, paddle boarding; it’s got a dampener located between the case and the movement to absorb everyday shock. I think you get the point. While the EVO isn’t as robust as say a Rolex Submariner, it can definitely handle life. If you don’t believe me by the way, MB&F released a pretty awesome promotional video where its staff did all of the above.

MB&F Machines have always been fantastic watches that are as mad as a hat. The only problem being, they wouldn’t exactly be your daily driver. The EVO fixes that. A bulbous crystal, an iconic suspended balance, innovative engineering—all that good MB&F stuff within a watch that can handle more than the average person can throw at it.
