News: Girard-Perregaux releases Laureato Absolute Chronograph AM F1

At least a couple of high-end watch brands have teamed up with Aston Martin over the years, including TAG Heuer and the British brand Bremont. In 2021, however, Girard Perregaux became the latest official watch partner of this revered luxury car manufacturer and its Formula 1 team, Aston Martin Aramco Cognizant.

The Laureato Absolute Chronograph AM F1 is the third watch born out of this collaboration—the first two were a steel chronograph and tourbillon—and is the most high-tech to date, with a 44mm case comprising titanium and carbon taken from two F1 race cars.

The dial colour is quintessentially Aston Martin—a deep racing-car green—and it features a cross-hatch pattern that harks back to an old badge the company used in the 1920s. The matching strap, made from fluororubber and carbon, is superbly executed.

Flip it over and you’ll find an exhibition case back embossed with the words ‘Aston Martin Formula One Team’ and the famous winged logo. Beneath that lies the in-house GP Caliber 03300-1058—embellished with cote du Geneve ribbing and a smattering of pearlage engraving—which provides a respectable power reserve of around 46 hours.

As an aside, it’s interesting that Girard-Perregaux has teamed up with James Bond’s favourite car manufacturer. It's a little known fact that Bond briefly wore a Girard-Perregaux watch in the novel From Russia With Love after taking it off the wrist of a Russian KGB agent he’s just killed.

Should the Bond franchise ever end its relationship with Omega, we’re sure GP would be happy to throw its hat in the ring!
