Feature: The Oscars In Watches—Our Predictions
While everyone is speculating over who will win the Best Actor and Actress gongs, we have been wondering what luxury watches will be displayed on the wrists of Hollywood’s biggest stars at this year’s ceremony. And we’re pleased to announce the predictions are in—let’s check them out!
Will Smith is a man who’s clearly fond of his watches. He’s been spotted wearing brands including Rolex, TAG Heuer, Audemars Piguet and Ulysse Nardin over the years, so, the options are open. Maybe Mr Smith will stick by his penchant for Rolex and pick a classic Submariner or perhaps he’ll go for a dress watch like the Cellini. Audemars Piguet’s chic Royal Oak watch could even make an appearance. If his past choices are anything to go by, we’re sure it’ll be tasteful indeed.
As an ambassador for Omega, Nicole Kidman will undoubtedly be wearing something special from the brand at this year’s event—but what model? We’re thinking the Best Actress nominee could opt for a dazzling, diamond-encrusted vintage piece from a past era, like the one she wore at the 2017 Oscars. Alternatively, we can see Kidman rocking dressier Omega classics such as the Ladymatic or the De Ville Trésor—two understated yet glamorous timepieces.
Another brand ambassador is Best Actor nominee, Benedict Cumberbatch, who is representing the prestigious Jaeger-LeCoultre. The Power of the Dog star has been spotted in JLC’s Master Ultra Thin Date, a slick understated dress watch that perfectly complements a suit and tie. Other contenders could be fan favourite the Reverso, or the Master Control.
Turning away from expensive luxury watches, Kristen Stewart has previously worn a cheap cult classic—a digital Casio—although, we don’t think this is the watch she’ll wear to the Oscars. Having been photographed a number of times wearing a rectangular watch, we reckon Stewart could opt for an iconic piece like the Cartier Tank or maybe even a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso—besides, you need to wear something a little glitzier when possibly picking up that Best Actress gong, right?
Also nominated for his performance in The Power of the Dog is Kodi Smit-McPhee—take one look at him and you’ll probably agree that he’s a stylish young chap. At his recent BAFTAs appearance, he wore the beloved Cartier Tank Must, a model that’s undeniably Cartier’s most recognisable piece. If this is anything to go by, we reckon Smit-McPhee could stick with Cartier but maybe switch it up with a Ballon de Cartier or a Santos, perhaps…
