News: Angelus U30 Tourbillon Rattrapante

According to its creator, recently relaunched Swiss watchmaker Angelus, the U30 Tourbillon Rattrapante was five years in the making—and with everything this piece has on offer, it’s not hard to see why. The watch boasts a number of complications that on their own are impressive enough examples of fine watchmaking: a tourbillon, a flyback double column wheel chronograph, a rattrapante (split seconds) and a power reserve indicator.

The complications have been re-engineered and fitted together so that the wearer can admire the fully-integrated movement through the skeletonised dial. A 30-minute sub-dial for the chronograph sits at 3 o’clock, while across the way, the power reserve indicator is picked out in bright highlights of red and green. The one-minute tourbillon, operating at 28,800 vph, is clearly visible in the top left hand of the dial.

Watchmakers at Angelus haven’t sacrificed style for substance though, and the design is contemporary and cool—with an understated titanium case that complements the visual maze of the dial. With a diameter of 47mm, the watch is a satisfyingly sturdy presence on the wrist. But like all good things, the U30 Tourbillon Rattrapante is only available in an exclusively small run of 25 pieces.
