Gucci watch history
Gucci entered the watch market in the 1990s. The brand was originally created by Guccio Gucci, son of an Italian trader, who founded the House of Gucci in Florence in 1906.
Gucci watches commenced production in 1997 with values centred on advanced quality, precision and thought to detail. The company pooled its creative skills in the midst of an unparalleled accuracy in Swiss watch craftsmanship, ensuring its timepieces contained the most cutting-edge mechanics.
In the same year, Gucci Group took over the operating assets of the 'Severin Montres Group' (one of the world's leading manufacturers and distributors of watches) and fashioned its first watch collection.
Having acquired 'Yves Saint Laurent Couture' and 'Sanofi Beaute' as well as a stake of Sergio Rossi, Gucci had a strong base to launch its watches. In 2000, the company took over the Boucheron International group and secured license rights to produce 'Yves Saint Laurent Couture' watches.
Gucci's promise to be a leader in the worldwide watch market materialised and the brand made a place for itself in the luxury goods market as well. Gucci quickly earned recognition as a watch maker of distinctive style with its fresh edge and urban feel.
Gucci watches are created using a range of modern materials from stainless steel and sapphire crystal to soft silver. These materials characterise the fashionable appeal of the brand, and soft silver is still extensively put into use to fashion the company's watch dials. Some models also feature a fabric wristlet.
