Player of the Tournament Award
Jermaine McGillvary was awarded with a special prize after he was voted England’s player of the tournament at Rugby League World Cup 2017 – a Breitling Colt worth over £4,500.
The Huddersfield Giants winger played a vital role in the campaign that saw England crowned World Cup runners-up for the first time since 1995, narrowly losing out to host nation and overwhelming tournament favourites Australia in the final, 6-0.
It was a tense and exciting match that could easily have gone the way of Wayne Bennett’s side, who put in a display for the English faithful to be proud of against a very strong Aussie side.
McGillvary was as impressive as ever in Brisbane on Saturday and rightly emerged as England’s Player of the Tournament. He had special words of thanks to both the England fans and Watchfinder when he accepted his prize from England Team Manager Jamie Peacock MBE, and you can watch his acceptance below.
Rugby League fans voted in their thousands in the Watchfinder-hosted public poll to find England’s standout performer, and McGillvary came out on top with a remarkable 45% of the vote – ahead of Gareth Widdop and James Graham in the poll.
