News: Longines Equestrian Pocket Watch Chronograph
The Lépine pocket watch, named after innovator and watchmaker Jean-Antoine Lépine, is a style of pocket watch admired for its thinness. Following a development by Lépine himself that simplified the calibre and used flattened bridges to save space, it is a technique still used in modern watches today, as well as in the first ever watch made by the inimitable Longines.
Produced in 1878, Longines’ first watch was a Lépines-style pocket watch, and for 2016, the brand has reissued that famed watch in a limited run of just 33. In 18kt rose gold and a whopping 55mm in diameter (traditional for the period), the Longines Equestrian Pocket Watch Chronograph is a faithful reproduction of the original.
Other era-specific details come in the form of the polished white lacquer dial and the cover engraving of a jockey and his horse. Power comes from the ETA-sourced calibre L790.2, a central second monopusher column-wheel chronograph. Running seconds are displayed at 6 o’clock.
