News: Linde Werdelin LW 10-24

Linde Werdelin has an interesting beginning. In 1996, soon-to-be co-founder and keen skier Jorn Werdelin got lost in the Swiss Alps, when he was caught off guard by a sudden change of the weather. He ended up skiing off a cliff in error, and in the resulting accident, broke his back. Thankfully, Werdelin survived, but it planted an idea in his head. As the third generation of a family of jewellers, he wanted to combine this with his love of travel and adventure. Several years later, in 2002, Werdelin partnered up with fellow Dane Morten Linde, an expert in design, and the brand was born. Its timepieces are examples of both high-end watchmaking, as well as utilitarian tools for extreme sportsmen.

This year is the tenth anniversary of Linde Werdelin’s Founders watch series, and in celebration, the brand has released its third generation watch collection: the LW-1024. The line is a big step forward for the brand in both design and technical prowess, featuring an entirely new case shape and novel complications. The watch is powered by the in-house automatic calibre LW08, a new movement for the LW-1024, that beats at 28,000vph and has a power reserve of 42 hours.

The unique shape of the case is smart and contemporary, and features a bezel that has been minimised to reveal more of the dial. The watch is available in two models, limited to 96 pieces each—one with a case of 18k rose gold and the other with a case of black carbon. Both have a dial that features a GMT complication, day and night indicator and an AM/PM display. The dial also makes use of the luminous system that the brand had previously developed for the Oktopus Frogman, which was designed to absorb light and reflect as efficiently as possible.
