Rolex Daytona 16523
One of the most iconic and enduringly popular of timepieces, the Daytona has undergone an array of evolutions since it was first introduced in the 1960s. This rare ‘R’ serial Daytona was part of a limited run of the classic racing chrono that was produced for just one year, and boasts a plethora of highly prized attributes no longer found on the Daytona of today. Chief amongst them is the unusual Mark I ’floating dial’, which positions the ‘Cosmograph’ of the watch’s name further down on the dial, separated from the rest of the text. The watch also utilises the rarely seen ‘200 unit’ tachymeter scale—different to the 400 units on modern Daytonas—and features an ‘inverted 6’ on the hours subdial. The cherry on top of this holy grail watch? It is part of the very first series of Daytonas to be powered by the modified Zenith El Primero movement, calibre 4030—distinguished by the seconds hand at 9 o'clock rather than 6.
This Rolex has undergone a thorough inspection of water resistance, accuracy, functionality and condition to determine the level of reconditioning required to meet our strict standards. It has also been referenced against technical documents and manufacturer records where available to ensure authenticity and a clean history.
