The father of Omega, Louis Brandt opened his first 'pocket watch' assembly workshop at La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1848. Within 50 years his famous OMEGA 19-line calibre won the International jury's prize at the 1900 Paris World Fair.
Over the following century Omega became a world famous brand and adopted the advertising slogan "The Watch The World Has Learned To Trust". Omega are now the largest watch manufacturer in Switzerland and the brand has developed an extensive International distribution network with offices in Paris exporting across five continents.

Speedmaster (Man on the Moon)
In 1965, after blind testing several brands' chronographs NASA selected the Omega Speedmaster as the official watch of the manned space flights. Omega's 'Speedmaster Professional went on to accompany all manned space flights and in 1970 it contributed to saving the lives of the astronauts of the crippled Apollo 13 shuttle. Commander Lovell used his Omega Speedmaster to time the 1/10th of a second firing of the secondary rockets taking the ship out of lunar orbit on a trajectory back to Earth. In recognition of this, Omega were awarded NASA'a highest distinction - the "Snoopy Award".

De Ville: Co-Axial
In 1999 the new Omega De Ville was introduced with a movement that was entirely new to an Omega series produced watch. The elegant De Ville: Co-Axial watch with the magnificent coaxial escapement invented by the noted English watchmaker Dr. George Daniels, is highly accurate, resistant to shocks and requires little maintenance.
In brief, the coaxial escapement eliminates practically all friction between the pallets wheel and the pallets, which had long been a source of lubrication problems in mechanical watches. The result is a longer lifetime for the movement and its increased accuracy.

Omega is the last letter of the Greek alphabet and symbolises accomplishment and perfection - qualities that have been inherent in every Omega watch since the company's foundation in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, in 1848.
